Six Tips To Help You Sell More

Whether you’re running your own business or you’re employed as a salesperson for a company, tips on how to increase your sales are always useful. So why not try the following?

* You must have confidence in the product or service you are selling. If you don’t, this will come across subconsciously when you are talking to people and you will be less likely to make a sale.

* You must have thorough product knowledge. You can only answer questions and counter objections if you know everything there is to know about what you are selling. Also, it will help you to understand and demonstrate the difference between features and benefits. The features of a product are technical (for example, central locking on a car) but the benefits are what these features provide to your customer (central locking gives greater security and convenience). People buy features – so learn to turn your product’s features into benefits!

* Always be an attentive listener. You won’t know what your customer really wants unless you listen to them. People often think of fast-talking, glib salesmen. Make sure you do more listening than talking. Ask questions to find out the information you need and then use this to your advantage.

* Always try to look good. You don’t have to be dressed expensively but you must be smart. It not only impresses the customer, but it helps you to feel more confident.

* Avoid irritating mannerisms. Use appropriate body language; don’t ‘um’ and ‘ah’; don’t fiddle with things on the desk or continually touch your hair in a nervous manner.

* Finally, you’ve got to persevere. I know there comes a point when you realise that the customer has said ‘no’ and means ‘no’. But up to that point, work hard to show them how your product or service can improve their life, make them happier, solve their problems… or whatever!

Selling isn’t easy; but if you enjoy interacting with people and feel confident that you’re supplying a great product then it could be just the job for you!
